LFF: Heartbeats (Les Amours Imaginaires)

If you haven't heard of the obscenely talented 21 year old French-Canadian Xavier Dolan, you probably will soon. A former child actor, Heartbeats is his second film and not only is he the star and director, he's also take art direction, editing and costume design credits. Makes you sick, doesn't it?

Heartbeats is about two friends who encounter some problems when a dashing man enters their life and they both begin to fight for his affection. It's horrendously French but I don't mean that in a bad way. It's very subtle and slow but I absolutely loved the vivid colour palette, divine costuming and soundtrack. By heck, the soundtrack. I haven't heard such an eclectic mix of music in a film for a damn long time and I sincerely hope it gets a release. Until then, let's enjoy Dalida's cover of Cher's 'Bang Bang'.
